Rich Hopkins & Luminarios (live)
|
Rich Hopkins played guitar with The Sidewinders
in the mid 80's who released a couple of fine albums. After a legal battle
over the name they had to change their name to The Sand Rubies. They lasted
until 1993 after which Rich formed The Luminarios. Their first albums were 'Personality
Crisis' (1993), 'Dirt Town' (1994), 'Dumpster Of Love' (1995), 'El Paso'
(1996), 'The Glorious Sounds Of' (1998) - with Mike Davis from The MC5
on bass! - and '3000 Germans Can't Be Wrong', a live album which was released
in March 1998. Recorded live on February 16th, 1997 in Regensburg, Bavaria,
Germany, the CD also contains a cover version of the MC5's 'Kick Out The
Jams'! Kick-ass Rock 'n' Roll, baby! 'I Can Only Give You Everything' is
sung here by Mike Davis and the song is introduced as follows: (Rich Hopkins:)
'Mr. Michael Davis is gonna sing a song right now.' (Mike Davis:) 'I wanna
sing the first song that I ever recorded in the studio, with the MC5. And
it's a cover of a song by Them, not written by Van Morisson, but by other
people in the group. And it's called 'I Can Only Give You Everything.' It's the only version I know that features a lapsteel
guitar solo. Gotta catch these guys live when they return to Europe next
time! Rich Hopkins & Luminarios are Rich Hopkins (guitar/vocals) -
Mike Davis (bass/vocals) - Rick Moe (drums) - Stefan George (lapsteel guitar).
